Construction and Labour

This type of work is very hands on and requirs a level of physical strength and fitness to be able to keep up with the workload.

Many construction firms will not employ people under-18 or people who don't have a current CSCS Health and Safety card.

 

Labourers can expect to earn up to £9.50 per hour, and earning potential increases substantially when specific skills such as bricklaying, carpentry, or specific vehicle licenses are held by the employee.

Warehousing

Warehousing runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which is good for people looking for lots of hours. The work can be physically demanding, so this should be taken into account when applying.

Earning potential increases substantially when an employee obtains specific skills such as forklift driving.

 

Warehouse workers can expect to earning between £7-9 with forklift drivers earning £12+. Working night shifts can also increase earning potential.

Retail and Customer Service

Retail and customer service workers need to be able to keep up to date with the products of services they provide so that they can provide the best advice to their customers. Customer Service can range from working in a shop, to phone-handling, to working in a reception.

 

Retail workers can expect to earn between £6-9 per hour depending on experience.

 

 

 

Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care workers are understandbly expected to have an extremely caring and kind nature due to the nature of the clients which use the services offered. Health and Social Care covers a wide variety of working environments including hospitals, retirement homes, learning disabilities, children, and homecare.

 

Unqualified carers can expect to earn between £7-9 per hour, with NVQ qualified carers earning £10+.
